Four Novelty Table Lamps that Can Make the Perfect Gift
When it comes to gifts, it is easy to be lost to find a good idea. Often, the person to receive the gift is known so well that it is hard to avoid getting another book, or scarf or even gift voucher. However, nothing is more pleasing to receive than a gift that is different, prompting perhaps a laugh or an appreciative smile. One of the most popular items to cover both of these categories is table lamps. They can be strange, contemporary, obscure or just plain funny, but they can reflect so perfectly the personality and interests of the receiver.
It is true that lamps for a table have a very practical use, but there is a fun element afforded to them that other lights and lamps are not. For example, garden lights have always had a coldly practically look about them, and are not generally available cloaked in Star Wars memorabilia. Ceiling lamps, meanwhile, will rarely have a theme at all. There are versions of course, but the ceiling fans with lights added is the extent to which designers tend to deviate.
However, the versatile lamp that can sit on either a hallway table, an office table or a bedside desk, tends to be given license to be obscure or even silly, and there are plenty of examples to illustrate the point. Here are just four.
Fluffy Gonk Lamp
It is difficult to find a more fun example of a lamp for a gift. For all intents and purposes, it looks like a large lump of fluff, and can come in a variety of colours. Amongst the favourites is pink, as seems to suit the style. Its overpowering feminine look makes it ideal as a gift for a girl, perhaps one whose favourite colour is pink. The lamp stands just 18cms tall and, though it is covered with a light material, the light emitted is gentle enough to illuminate for fun but not so much to read a novel with.
Pebble Lamp
Though this is not a fun piece, it is undoubtedly a lamp that will attract interest and is likely to inspire a conversation. It is very artistic in appearance, with the wound thread design reminiscent of a ball of twine. However, it is oval shaped and, in a natural light brown colour, appears like a pebble that one might find on a beach. Again, the light it emits is not the strongest, but the stylish nature makes it ideal for a place on a hallway table, or even a table in a conservatory, perhaps.
Acrylic Ribbed Lamp
There is something timeless about an acrylic ribbed lamp, even though it clearly is of a contemporary style and is far removed from the traditional. Though made of plastic, it does succeed in adding a touch of class to a room, though it would probably be suited more for a boys bedroom than a living room. With a perfectly crafted narrow ribbed shade, the lamp stands quite straight and tall, and emits a gentle but steady glow. Available in a variety of colours, from red to white, it is sure to match any male style.
Lady Lamp
This is a far more classic style lamp, cast in bronze and depicting a woman holding up a globe from which the light glows. It is probably more suited to the older generation, whose appreciation for this type of classic art may be better placed. In fact, it might even complement an existing item that they have. Of course, this type of lamp could be placed on a hallway table, in the living room, dining room, a bedroom or even the conservatory. In fact, there is hardly a place where it would not fit in.
The number of options is vast, with themes in sports, vehicles, places, famous people and some of the less describable shapes and figures that can be produced. Ceiling fans with lights are practical and can be stylish, and garden lights can enhance any garden by illuminating what is otherwise unseen at night.
But, just as the stereotypical lava lamp has become a mainstay of college dormitory rooms, gifts of novelty table lamps of more humorous, curious and even bizarre designs are just as welcome at home.
